Willem Juliaan Avontroodt werd geboren in lier op 4 januari 1778. Hij overleed er op 8 maart 1864. Willem J. Avontroodt was stadssecretaris van Lier van 1817 tot 1830. Hij verzette zich tegen de verfransing van het openbare leven.
